A summer full of dance battles, VR experiences and sports simulations
People from Rotterdam who love sports and gaming have a great summer ahead. Under the title "Summer of Esports" a complete program of esports will be rolled out at various locations in the city, including dance battles (Just Dance), FIFA Challenge, E-Tour Rotterdam (Zwift), VR Experiences and various sports simulations. RTM Games Week is involved and endorses the program of www.summerofesports.nl.
Esports and gaming have become an integral part of our society. That is why Rotterdam launches the "Summer of Esports". A challenging summer program for both the hardcore gamer as sporty people from Rotterdam and sports clubs who want to get acquainted with the possibilities of esports. Sven de Langen, councilor for public health, healthcare, the elderly and sports of the Rotterdam municipality: "The popularity of esports is growing enormously. A trend that fits very well with an innovative and creative city like Rotterdam. The rollout of the "Summer of Esports" is a wonderful example of this. Rotterdam is at the forefront of the roll-out of esports and I can only be proud of that. It is a development that still offers many opportunities for the future. ”
Rotterdam is increasingly developing into the esports capital of the Netherlands. To realise this ambition, various parties have recently joined forces in a joint 'living lab'. A method in which science and innovation are directly linked to daily practice. Under the motto "learning by doing", we will jointly investigate how opportunities in the field of esports can be optimally utilized, in order to make a valuable contribution to the future sustainability of sports associations. The Summer of Esports is the first result of this.
RTM Games Week is partnering up with the City of Rotterdam and Sportscloud to make it happen. The program in the neighborhoods is organized by House of Esports and the "iconic events" by SportsCloud in collaboration with involved partners from the living lab (Rotterdam Ahoy, Sportbedrijf Rotterdam, Rotterdam Sportsupport, Rotterdam Topsport, Erasmus Esports, Hogeschool Rotterdam, Albeda, Usportfor, Trust and Municipality of Rotterdam) and Thinc Ahead, the Euromast, SS Rotterdam, the Castle , Feyenoord, Excelsior and Sparta.
